MIXTAPE: Mötley Crüe sleaze kings

The Crüe was my gateway drug into heavy metal. Previously I was into some Def Leppard and Van Halen, but Mötley really set me down the path to being a lifetime heavy metal fan. I really got into them around 1984 when I was 10 years old. I guess that is what juvenile delinquent older brothers are for. I reject your Judas Priest bro, but I’ll take your Crüe to new heights.

Crüe led to Metallica, then to death metal, hardcore/punk, then back to the roots with Black Sabbath and the like, and it goes on and on. All good stuff. All tracing back to Mötley Crüe. My parents must have been so proud.

Two things hanging in my house right now:

Exhibit A: a picture I drew for a girl in 1985. She kept it all these years (must have really had the hots for me), and gave it back to me a couple years ago. “It’s just a pentagram. Not really depicted accurately but I hope you like it.”

Exhibit B: From a trade with a neighborhood kid, to my bedroom door, to my first apartment, to this permanent spot for life in my house:

01   – Bastard (1983)
02   - Come On And Dance (1981)
03   - Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away) (1989)
04   - Dr. Feelgood (1989)
05   - Five Years Dead (1987)
06   - Girls, Girls, Girls (1987)
07   - Goin' Out Swingin' (2008)
08   - Helter Skelter (1983)
09   - Home Sweet Home (1985)
10   - If I Die Tomorrow (2005)
11   - Just Another Psycho (2008)
12   - Kickstart My Heart (1989)
13   - Knock 'Em Dead, Kid (1983)
14   - Live Wire (1981)
15   - Looks That Kill (1983)
16   - Louder Than Hell (1985)
17   - Merry-Go-Round (1981)
18   - Motherfucker Of The Year (2008)
19   - Piece Of Your Action (1981)
20   - Primal Scream (1991)

25   - Sumthin' For Nuthin' (1987)
26   - Ten Seconds To Love (1983)
27   - Too Fast For Love (Alternate Version) (1981)
28   - Too Young To Fall In Love (1983)
29   - Wild Side (1987)

Liner Notes:

Seven songs off 1983’s “Shout At The Devil” ought to tell you it’s a fucking masterpiece. Top 5 album of all time for me.
